In this time of online socials, The Goodship Illustration’s art club has been a highlight. Run by three illustrators in the north of England, the club runs live art lessons on Instagram every Friday. It’s super fun, super helpful and it’s free!
The trio is comprised of Katie Chappell, Helen Stephens and Tania Willis. I knew of Helen Stephens as she created one of my son’s favourite picture books, How to Hide a Lion, as well as the Instagram hashtag #walktosee.
What I love about this club is the illustrators’ jovial chats. It’s a one-hour livestream but participants can join in by writing in the chatroom. It’s friendly, open to anyone and you practice a different skill each week.
After the session you can share your artwork if you want – check out #artclubaftermath #goodshipillo, #goodshipillustration. Talking of #artclubaftermath, I include a timed, quick sketch and a quick collage I did in different sessions. (My cat added to the aftermath by chasing paper in the collage session!)
They also do a podcast and run courses. Check out their website is here.
