In this year of online socials, The Goodship Illustration’s art club has been a highlight of my week. Run by three illustrators in the north of England, the club runs live art lessons on Instagram every Friday. It’s super fun, super helpful and it’s free!
The trio is comprised of Katie Chappell, Helen Stephens and Tania Willis. I knew of Helen Stephens as she created one of my son’s favourite picture books, How to Hide a Lion, as well as the Instagram hashtag #walktosee.
What I love about this club is the illustrators’ jovial chats. It’s a one-hour livestream but participants can join in by writing in the chatroom. It’s friendly, open to anyone and you practice a different skill each week.
After the session you can share your artwork if you want – check out #artclubaftermath #goodshipillo, #goodshipillustration. Talking of #artclubaftermath, I include a timed, quick sketch and a quick collage I did in different sessions. (My cat added to the aftermath by chasing paper in the collage session!)
This coming Friday is their last art club before Christmas (8pm UK time), but you can watch their previous art clubs. I’ll definitely be checking back in with The Goodship Illustration in the new year.
It’s just the kind of cheer we all need after a tough year!
So, thanks from me here in Bristol to the Goodship Illustration team!
